Google Ads
Connect Google Ads to Terno AI to analyse campaigns, keywords, and search terms, and optionally make changes.
Connect your Google Ads accounts and ask about campaign performance, spend, keywords, and search terms in plain English, without opening Google Ads or building reports.
Before you start
Section titled “Before you start”- A Google account with access to the Google Ads accounts you want to analyse.
- Admin rights in your Terno workspace.
Connect Google Ads
Section titled “Connect Google Ads”- Click Add Data Connectors, open the Connectors tab, and choose Google Ads.
- Read the details card, then click Connect.
- Sign in with your Google account and approve the permissions.
- You’re returned to Terno, which shows Connected to Google Ads.
Next, Google asks you to choose the account to sign in with:
Google asks for permission to see, edit, create, and delete your Google Ads accounts and data. Google only offers this one level of access for Google Ads. Terno still only reads your data until an admin turns on write access for a specific account (see below).
Choose accounts
Section titled “Choose accounts”Right after you sign in, Terno lists every Google Ads account your login can reach and switches them all on with Read access. Accounts under a manager (MCC) account are grouped under it. Accounts you can open directly are listed under Directly accessible.
For each account, choose:
| Access | What Terno can do |
|---|---|
| No access | Never query this account. |
| Read | Query reports. Nothing is changed. |
| Read & write | Also make changes, such as pausing campaigns or changing budgets. Only admins can choose this, account by account. |
Set all to Read and Set all to No access change every account at once. Write access is never switched on in bulk. Change this later from Manage → Account selection.
What you can analyse
Section titled “What you can analyse”| Report | What’s in it |
|---|---|
| Campaign | Campaign status, budget, spend, impressions, clicks, conversions, and costs. |
| Ad group | The same metrics broken down by ad group. |
| Keyword | Keyword text, match type, bids, and performance. |
| Search term | The actual searches that triggered your ads. |
Try asking:
- “Which campaigns spent the most in the last 30 days?”
- “Show conversion rate and cost per conversion by ad group this month.”
- “Which keywords have high spend but no conversions?”
- “What search terms triggered my ads last week?”
- “Compare this month’s spend to last month by campaign.”
Make changes (write access)
Section titled “Make changes (write access)”With Read & write access, an admin can ask Terno to make changes, such as pausing a campaign, adjusting a budget, adding keywords, or creating a responsive search ad. Terno shows what it will change and asks you to confirm each change first.
See Google Ads actions for everything Terno can do and the safety checks.
Best practices
Section titled “Best practices”- Give a date range, such as “last 30 days” or “this quarter”.
- Start broad, then drill down: top campaigns first, then the ad groups and keywords inside one.
- Be specific with big accounts: “top 10 campaigns by spend last week” rather than “all campaign data”.
- Keep write access off unless you need it, and switch it on for one account at a time.
Troubleshooting
Section titled “Troubleshooting”My account isn’t in the list
- Check you signed in with the Google account that has access to it.
- Check the account is active and not cancelled or suspended.
- For accounts under a manager (MCC), make sure your login has access through the manager.
- If you were given access recently, click Manage → Reconnect to refresh the list.
”Write actions are not enabled for account …”
The account is set to Read. An admin opens Manage → Account selection and sets it to Read & write.
Terno can’t find my campaign
Check the campaign is in an account that’s switched on, and that it had activity in the date range you asked about. Mention the account name if you’ve connected several.
”Reconnect the source” or the connection has expired
The sign-in was revoked or expired. An admin opens the connector and clicks Manage → Reconnect. Reconnecting keeps your account selections and chat history.
”Not permitted to query account(s)”
The account is set to No access, or an admin limited your group to other accounts. Ask an admin to check Account selection and Access control.
”Too many requests” or “Daily quota … is exhausted”
Terno limits how often each workspace calls each app, to stay within the app’s own limits. Wait a moment and try again. Daily quotas reset at 00:00 UTC. See Limits.
Security
Section titled “Security”- You sign in on Google’s own page. Terno never sees your password.
- Tokens are encrypted at rest and refreshed automatically when the app allows it.
- Terno only reads your data, unless an admin gives an account Read & write access. Every change is confirmed with you first and recorded in an audit log.
- Only workspace admins can connect, reconnect, or disconnect. Everyone in the workspace can ask questions about the accounts that are switched on.
Disconnect
Section titled “Disconnect”Open the connector and click Manage → Disconnect. Terno deletes its stored tokens and can no longer fetch new data. Your account selections, notes, and earlier chats are kept, so reconnecting later picks up where you left off. Nothing changes in your Google account.
To also remove Terno’s access on the Google side, revoke it in your Google account settings.
